Chikankari is an art passed down for hundreds of years and yet today it continues to flourish. There are two beliefs as to the popularisation of this exquisite art. Some believe that queen Noor Jahan patronized the art in the late 600ad leading to its development while others believe it's an art taught by the prophet Mohammed. The story goes that the prophet taught the art of chikankari to a thirsty traveler so that the traveler would never die of hunger.
