Police commissioners of Lucknow & Kanpur removed

LUCKNOW: In a major reshuffle, police commissioners of Lucknow and Kanpur were removed on Monday morning. Other senior IPS officers were also shifted to the state.


Lucknow police commissioner DK Thakur was kept on waiting and additional director general of police (intelligence), SB Shiradkar, was made new CP Lucknow. DK Thakur had stayed 19 months as Lucknow CP during which no major law and order crisis took place while all the crimes were also worked out.

While, CP Kanpur, Vijay Meena was removed and also kept on waiting and ADG PHQ, BP Jogdand was made new CP Kanpur. Vijay Meena was made CP Kanpur by Election Commission on January 13, after then CP Kanpur Asim Arun had taken VRS to join politics. Violence had taken place in Kanpur in the month of June over allegedly derogatory remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Other changes included DG Homeguards, Vijay Kumar was shifted in the same capacity to CB-CID, while DG Logistics, BK Maurya was given additional charge of Homeguards.
