Section 144 imposed in Lucknow till Jan 10 ahead of upcoming festivals

- However, the restrictions will not apply to Christmas, New Year, and other festivals.

The Uttar Pradesh government has imposed Section 144 in Lucknow due to upcoming festivals such as Christmas and New Year. The restrictions have been imposed in the city till January 10, 2023.
A prohibitory order was issued by the Office of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Lucknow, in this regard.
More than five or more people are not allowed to gather publically in the city and strict action will be taken against guideline violators.
An official statement revealed, "In view of some upcoming festivals and other events, section 144 has been implemented in the city."
SECTION 144 IS NOT APPLICABLE ON THESE DATES
However, the events organized for Christmas (Dec 25), Guru Govind Singh Jayanti (Dec 29), New Year’s Eve (Dec 31), and New Year (Jan 1, 2023) will be conducted as per the schedule as Section 144 will not be applicable on these days in Lucknow.
Also, the entrance and competitive examinations will be conducted as per the schedule. As per the reports, Section 144 has been imposed in view of the demonstrations by various party leaders, the farmers’ association, and other protests in Lucknow, the state government said in a statement.
