Oudh Bar Association protests collegium for judge's post to 4 Supreme court lawyers
By: admin | Sept. 23, 2022, 2:35 p.m.The Bar association sent the resolution to the Chief Justice of India on September 9, concluding that it was pertinent that only the advocates practicing at the High Court, be considered for the High Court judges.
On Thursday, the Oudh Bar Association (OBA) opposed the recommendation of four Supreme Court lawyers by Allahabad High Court's collegium to be elevated as a judge in the Allahabad HC and its Lucknow bench. In protest, OBA has resolved to abstain from judicial work in the Lucknow bench on Friday & Saturday successively.
OBA general secretary AN Tripathi said, "Unfortunately, advocates who are not practicing before this high court and do not appear before judges who are part of Collegium have been recently recommended for elevation. This practice lacks objective assessment of a lawyer and is an arbitrary exercise of power".
The OBA had requested on March 11, 2022, the Allahabad High Court's Chief Justice abandon the recently started practice to pick advocates from the Supreme Court for elevation in this high court.
